Living Luxe on Vacation: Your Ultimate List of Beach Essentials

It’s no secret that people love the beach. In fact, 68% of families and 57% of global travelers opt for a beach vacation.

Whether you’re planning a weekend trip to your local beach for a two-week getaway to a tropical island, there are some beach essentials you’ll need to pack. After all, you don’t want to start your vacation by running around to local stores looking for things you forgot at home.

So, what exactly needs to make it into your suitcase? Keep reading to find out!

You can’t go to the beach without a swimsuit! But if you’re going for multiple days, you’ll probably want to bring a few extra.

If one breaks or is still wet the next day, you’ll have a backup to use. Plus, it keeps all those beach pictures looking different and unique from one another.

While you’ll probably spend a great deal of time in a bathing suit, you’ll also want to have a coverup to throw on for when you’re walking to and from the beach.

Your coverup should be lightweight and flowy, so it doesn’t stick to your body. There are several designs, but ones that open in the front are often easier to get on and off if you’re still a little wet from the ocean.

Beach Towel

One of the biggest mistakes people make when going to the beach is only bringing one towel. You end up laying it on the sand to sunbathe and then have to use a sandy towel to dry yourself off.

Instead, be sure to bring two different towels. Use one for sunbathing and keep the other rolled up in your bag for drying off. Travel towels are often good choices as they’re more compact but still large enough to dry yourself off.

Beach Umbrella

While you want to achieve that perfect sun-kissed tan, there is such a thing as too much sun. The last thing you want is to end up with a nasty sunburn or possibly even sun poisoning on your trip!

To avoid this, consider bringing a beach umbrella. Some resorts will have umbrellas that you can rent or use for free. But other beaches will require you to bring your own, so make sure you do some research ahead of time.

Waterproof Phone Pouch

Did you really go to the beach if you don’t have tons of amazing photos to share? While you’ll want that flawless picture, getting it can be nerve-wracking.

But you don’t have to bring your expensive smartphone close to the water without any protection. A waterproof phone pouch will protect your phone from sand, wet fingers, and even being dropped in the water.

The best part is that the pouch doesn’t detract from the quality of your images! Plus they typically come with an attached lanyard, so you can keep your phone on you at all times.

There’s no denying just how bright the sun can get during the day. To avoid squinting for hours on end, be sure to bring a good pair of sunglasses.

While you want them to work well, you also want to make sure they’re stylish to get some more amazing pictures.

Leave-In Conditioner

Have you ever left the beach after a long day and loved the way your hair looked? While one day in the ocean can give you dreamy beach waves, a longer trip can be damaging to your hair.

The mixture of sun, saltwater, and wind can end up drying your hair out and causing it to frizz. But a leave-in conditioner can help keep your hair nourished and protected from the elements.

Beach Tote

You’ll need something to carry all these beach essentials in. That’s were a nice beach tote comes in handy.

Make sure it’s big enough to fit your travel towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, phone, and wallet (if you choose to bring it). You may also want something with a beachy design, like a straw tote. Whatever you pick, make sure it has a durable liner.

Beach-Inspired Jewelry

“Jewelry…for the beach?!” While you likely won’t want to wear jewelry to the beach itself, don’t forget about all the time you’ll be spending in the surrounding area.

You’ll likely want to go sightseeing and shopping during your trip. You’ll also need to get changed when you go out to eat.

A few good pieces of jewelry can bring your outfits together and help you look your best. Consider going with beach-inspired jewelry to add a festive touch to your outfits.

Before you leave for your big vacation, make sure you decide on what you’ll be doing. If you just want to lounge on the beach and walk around the town, you may only need to pack tank tops, shorts, and sandals.

But if you want to go hiking or sightseeing, you’ll likely need athletic shorts, sneakers, and a sports bra. If you plan on doing anything fancy, like going out to a nice dinner, you’ll also want to pack a dress and heels.

It’s also important to check the weather a few days before you leave. Depending on the forecast, you may want to bring a raincoat, a light sweater, or even a few pairs of long pants.
